Upcoming Special EventsSeptember 13 - 16, 2010 Pro Walk/Pro Bike 2010® Chattanooga The National Center for Bicycling & Walking (NCBW), invite you to Chattanooga, September 13-16 for Pro Walk/Pro Bike® 2010. Elaborating on this year’s theme, Bringing Livable Communities and Regions to Scale will be speakers from FHWA, FTA, CDC, NOAA, EPA and others to provide a national perspective on transportation, health, housing, planning and the environment. They will be joined by representatives from state and local governments, MPOs and NGOs including: Bikes Belong; League of American Bicyclists, PEDS (Atlanta), AARP, National Association of Realtors, Complete Streets Coalition, America Bikes, PedNet (Columbia, MO.), Smart Coast Alabama, Safe Routes to School National Center and National Partnership, APBP, Rails to Trails Conservancy, Active Living Research and many others. Panel sessions include: Cities for Cycling Project; Status Report on the Transportation Bill; Living Streets; Using Transportation to Improve Livability and Health (CDC); Walk Friendly Communities; and numerous sessions presented by researchers and practitioners across the country. (http://www.bikewalk.org/2010conference/index.php) October 21 - 23, 2010 2010 Historic Preservation Conference The 2010 Kentucky State Historic Preservation Conference will be held October 21-23 in Frankfort. See the following link for more details, conference schedule, & registration form. http://heritage.ky.gov/.htm Of special interest to planners, preservation commissioners, and zoning officials are four sessions, worth 1.25 CM credits each, that specifically address: review of permit applications proposing changes and new construction in locally-designated historic districts, Section 106 review (review of projects through federal law processes), planning for archaeological sites; and historic window repair vs. replacement. Session descriptions are included in the conference brochure. In addition to the educational sessions, receptions, & historic house tour offered on Thursday afternoon and Friday, conference attendees are welcome to attend (at no cost) hands-on demonstrations and workshops on Saturday that will be presented by Preservation Trades Network (PTN) craftsmen. A FREE final reception is planned for Saturday night, which will be held at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Continuing Education Credits KRS 147A requires continuing education for each planning professional, planning commissioner, and zoning official. In addition to the four sessions mentioned above, other sessions may be used towards this requirement with approval from the participant’s planning commission. City officials may earn up to four hours of training credit from the Kentucky League of Cities (KLC).
