Welcome to the 2008 OKI Regional Planning Conference Web Site

Planning our Legacy
October 15 – 17, 2008
Louisville, Kentucky

We hope that you will join us in Louisville for the next Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana Regional Planning Conference. This year’s program includes quality professional development opportunities and many memorable experiences.

Mobile workshops will enable you to get out into Louisville and the surrounding communities to experience the legacy that planning continues to provide through Olmsted parkway systems, historic preservation, and neighborhood and small area planning efforts. Breakout and plenary sessions will allow attendees to discuss and explore issues that are current to our profession and that will impact our ability to continue to develop the legacy of planning for our communities.

  • Learn about Louisville’s “City of Parks” initiative which will develop a 27 mile corridor of active and passive recreation areas including more than 1,000 acres of parkland along one of the city’s major watersheds. Eventually a 100 mile trail system will encircle the entire county.

  • Hear about what it took for the community to “Move that Bus” for a recent episode of ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover show.

  • Take a tour of historic industrial sites and understand how they have changed over time in the ways that they contribute to the community.

  • Network and collaborate with planners from around the region.

  • An exhibit hall will provide opportunities to learn about local resources, consultants and products.

Bring your walking shoes and a sense of adventure. Museums, performing arts and sports venues, top quality restaurants and a variety of different entertainment outlets are all within a short walk of the conference hotel. We also look forward to a spirited "Planning Olympics" competition to be carried out throughout the course of the conference.

We look forward to seeing you in Louisville in October!
